Darien Police Blotter Dec. 16-18

A few packages were reported stolen and some unlucky people fell victim to identity theft around the holiday.

DARIEN, CT — Darien's recent police news includes cases of package and identity theft.

A Kensett Lane resident reported that a FedEx package delivered on Dec. 16 around 5:30 p.m. was stolen. It contained a sweater worth $116.

Another two packages were reported stolen on Holmes Avenue Dec. 18. A resident noticed two packages on the doorstep when she pulled away from her home, but they were gone when she returned 30 minutes later. The packages contained clothing and a children's toy.

Identity Theft

A resident reported that his identity was stolen and was used at a Bronx, NY car dealership Dec. 17. The car salesman noticed the thief's license number was invalid. It contained the identifying information of the victim. The salesman searched the Internet and found the victim was white male and the person in front of him was a black male. The man left the dealership when confronted.

A person tried to transfer $1,000 from one account to another using a fake Florida license Dec. 18, police said. A bank employee suspected the license was a fake and information didn't match the account holder.

The license was seized by the bank and the person left. Police contacted the victim who is a Florida resident, but who has never been to Connecticut.
