
DARIEN, CT — A Stamford man and a Norwalk man were arrested on charges of driving under the influence in a pair of separate drunk driving incidents in Darien on Aug. 18 and 19, according to authorities.
In the first, at about 1:30 a.m. on the 18th, Stamford resident Walter Martinez, 27, was pulled over by police on Hoyt Street.
"An officer saw [Martinez] fail to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Hoyt Street and Middlesex Road," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The officer pulled behind the vehicle and observed the vehicle changed speeds drastically several times, between 25mph and 49mph.

"The officer noticed that Martinez’s eyes were glassy and he was having trouble concentrating. When asked, Martinez admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages with dinner."
After failing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, Martinez was taken into custody, and at police headquarters his blood alcohol content was measured at .1394 and .1339 almost a half hour later.

In addition to DUI, Martinez was also charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and operating without a license. He was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 28.
The second DUI occurred at about 11:45 p.m. on the 19th on the Post Road near Garden City Road, according to Darien police.
Segundo Compoverde-Contreras, 43, of Commerce Street in Norwalk, was pulled over after a witness allegedly saw him driving erratically and reported him to police.
"The officer smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Compoverde-Contreras, and noted that his eyes were watery," wrote police in a statement. "Compoverde-Contreras was asked to exit the vehicle and submitted to standardized field sobriety testing, which he failed to perform to standard."
Compoverde-Contreras refused to submit to a blood alcohol content test and was charged with failure to drive right in addition to DUI. He was released after posting a $250 bond and was scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court Aug. 20.
