Darien Police Commissioner Resigns Over Offensive Tweets: Report
Tom Joyce, a member of the commission for six years, reportedly resigned on Thursday at the request of First Selectman Jayme Stevenson.
DARIEN, CT — Tom Joyce, a Republican member of the Darien Police Commission for the past six years, has resigned after town officials learned of offensive Twitter posts on his now inactive account, reports the Norwalk Hour.
Among Joyce's tweets were posts in favor of profiling Muslims, and other posts objectifying women. His account was called to the attention of the Board of Selectmen by Darien resident Reed Barthold, according to the publication.
Upon learning of the tweets, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson immediately asked for Joyce's resignation, which he tendered on Thursday.
