Darien Police Department Mourns Death Of Retired Sergeant
Police Chief Jeremiah P. Marron Jr., on Friday announced the death of retired Darien Sgt. Edward J. Schildnecht Sr.

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Police Department is mourning the death of retired Sgt. Edward J. Schildnecht Sr. He was 91.
Schildnecht was born in Stamford on Dec. 25, 1932, and was raised in Darien, according to a post from Darien Police Chief Jerremiah P. Marron Jr. on Friday.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in October 1951 and served until August 1953.
On Aug. 2, 1959, Schildnecht joined the Darien Police Department, and he served as a patrol officer until May 4, 1972, when he was promoted to sergeant, Marron said. Schildnecht served in that capacity until his retirement from active service on Nov. 16, 1979.

Schildnecht is the father of retired Darien police officer Edward J. Schildnecht Jr.
Marron said memorial bunting has been displayed in front of police headquarters in honor of Schildnecht and his service to the town and department.
Additionally, all uniformed Darien police officers will wear mourning bands for 24 hours beginning Friday at 11 p.m.
