Darien Police Honor Officer Who Was Killed 95 Years Ago
The police department last Friday honored the first Darien officer to be killed in the line of duty.
DARIEN, CT — The Darien Police Department last Friday honored a Darien officer who died 95 years ago.
On Nov. 18, 1927, officer William Bowman was struck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic on the Post Road, the DPD said in a Facebook post last week. Bowman had one year of service with the department and he was the first Darien police officer to be killed in the line of duty.
Per DPD General Order, mourning bands were worn on Nov. 18 in remembrance of Bowman.

"Today the men and women of the Darien Police Department pay tribute and honor Officer Bowman for his sacrifice," the department said on Friday.
