DARIEN, CT — Veteran Darien Police Lt. Robert Shreders, currently assigned to the department's Training Division, graduated last week as a member of the 272nd Session of the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the Darien department announced.

The academy offers "a professional course of study for U.S. and international law enforcement managers nominated by their agency heads because of demonstrated leadership qualities," according to the FBI. The 10-week program provides coursework in intelligence theory, terrorism and terrorist mindsets, management science, law, behavioral science, law enforcement communication, and forensic science.

Long considered the preeminent executive training for police professionals, both here and around the world, the academy was initially established in 1935 as the FBI Police Training School, and "serves to improve the administration of justice in police departments and agencies at home and abroad and to raise law enforcement standards, knowledge, and cooperation worldwide."
