Darien Property to Be Preserved as Open Space with State Grant

The land is on Hecker Avenue, within the floodplain of Stony Brook.

Open space grants have been awarded by Connecticut that will preserve nearly 950 acres across the state.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy made the announcement Friday that grants of almost $6 million to support 17 communities were being given out. The money will be used to purchase 949 of open space, assist three urban communities in enhancing or developing community gardens and allow a fourth urban community to establish a natural habitat for environmental education.

On the list of recipients is the town of Darien, which was awarded $137,500 to purchase a 1.245-acre parcel at 41 Hecker Ave.
