Darien Republican Seeks State Party Chair Post

Dave Mathus this week announced his candidacy for State Chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party.

From CTGOP: Republican attorney, donor and leader Dave Mathus announced a campaign for State Chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party (CTGOP) Tuesday, pledging to bring key voices together to build a stronger Connecticut Republican Party.

“After hard deliberation, I have decided to step forward in the fight to return the Connecticut Republican Party to success by running for Chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party,” Mathus said.

“As a lifelong Republican, who grew up in Salisbury and spent many years in Westbrook, I have been deeply troubled by the economic destruction of our state by the Democratic Party’s agenda in Hartford,” Mathus added. “The final straws for me were the devastating November election results and the irresponsible agenda being pursued this year by the Democrats – seemingly determined to further undermine one of the slowest growing economies in the nation.”

“To save our state from the job-crushing agenda of the Democratic Party in Hartford, we have to change course. We have to win,” Mathus continued.

Mathus launched his campaign around a platform that outlines five core areas to strengthen the Party and help elect Republicans at every level:

- Re-engage major donors for much stronger fundraising based on a clear bold plan implemented by experienced leadership they will trust.

- Actively recruit high-quality candidates.

- Engineer a sustained and broad ground game in all parts of the state.

- Communicate a clear and more unified message of what Republicans will do for voters.

- Implement a robust vote tracking, news, opponent research and voter data war room.

“If we rally behind a clear multi-pronged plan to rebuild our Party and retake control of our state, we can make the GOP the Party of Connecticut’s Recovery, the Party of Connecticut’s Future,” Mathus said.

Mathus has a deep appreciation for the different regions and people of the state. Like many Connecticut residents, his career took him to New York City where he became the President of the Union League Club, the historic national Republican club, and a leader at McDermott Will & Emery, one of the nation’s leading law firms. He has been a tireless champion for the Republican Party. Mathus started his service doing opposition research at party headquarters in in Hartford while in college. Over the course of his career, Mathus has personally contributed significant funds to GOP candidates and the state party, organized fundraisers for GOP candidates, served on the State GOP Advisory Board, served as an Alternate Delegate for Connecticut to the Republican National Convention, worked with conservative think tanks, and built a network of past, current, and future GOP leaders and activists. In Westbrook, he served on the Town Center Revitalization Committee.

At the Union League Club, Mathus led the resurgence of its public affairs activities (hosting GOP Governors and leaders from across the country), led its strategic planning committee and, as President (2013-2015), led implementation and completion of the most significant capital improvements in 80 years and grew its membership to record levels.

“I have always worked to champion the Republican Party and conservative causes,” Mathus noted. “I believe I have the right network, experience, skills and vision to build, with the support and ideas of our Party’s many capable leaders, a much stronger and successful Connecticut Republican Party.”

Mathus recently moved to Darien where he lives with his wife Elizabeth and their two sons.

The next State Chairman of the CTGOP will be chosen at a convention of CTGOP State Central Committee members on June 25.
