Darien Residents Fall Victim to ID Fraud

Tax fraud typically increases this time of year as people learn they are victims when they go to file returns.

DARIEN, CT — A number of residents have recently fallen victim to identity fraud.

It's that time of year where people are busy preparing to file taxes. Unfortunately, a resident found out that fraudsters had filed in her name already.

A 55-year-old female reported the incident to police when she went to file her return and was notified by the IRS that it had already been filed.

In an unrelated fraud case a 70-year-old resident found her credit card had been used to fund an EZ Pass account to the tune of $1,360.

Another resident learned that his identity was used to apply for credit cards at Walmart, Target and Saks Fifth Avenue. He learned when Target tried to confirm his identity.
