Darien Rowers Launch into Fall Season

Team Garners Multiple Medals

The Maritime Rowing Club kicked off its fall slate at a host of local regattas recently.

The Head of the Schuylkill competition yielded multiple medals for Darien rowers. Both Darien High School seniors David Orner and Gaby Kulesz delivered the gold medals in the Men’s Quad and Women’s Quad events. DHS Senior Phillip Bogdanov, junior John Byrne and King School senior Riley Marsh claimed second place in the Men’s Quad event.

Over 119 rowers competed in the third annual Head of the Quinobequin race --- a three-kilometer youth sculling race for single rowers that takes place on the Charles River in Boston.

Orner claimed first place in the Men’s U19 1X race and DHS junior Dan Cone captured the bronze medal in the Men’s U17 Singles Event.

Indian Wells State Park in Shelton was the site of the annual Head of the Housatonic regatta. Cone captured first place in the Men’s Junior 4X event while Darien High School senior Phillip Bogdanov and Byrne walked away with second place. Kulesz led the charge in the Junior Women’s Quad competition and racked up a second place finish as well.

About Maritime Rowing Club: Maritime Rowing Club is home to the New Canaan High School crew team. The organization is dedicated to competitive and recreational rowing for all ages and abilities. Based on the scenic Norwalk River, rowing both sweep and sculling shells, Maritime is a team-oriented rowing club where all members work together to provide an enjoyable rowing experience for all. Since 1996, Maritime Rowing Club has offered rowing classes for all ages and skill levels from Middle School to Learn-to-Row to Masters competitive racing.
