"We are incredibly grateful for the parent and community support for music education in Darien," Thompson said in a news release. "The music teachers continuously go above and beyond for our students. As a parent of a young musician in the district myself, I have seen firsthand the positive impact of Darien’s music education program."

Darien is one of 36 districts in the state to be recognized as one of the Best Communities for Music Education. This is the fourth time Darien has received this designation.

Darien Public Schools offers a rich and comprehensive music education curriculum for all students from preschool to grade 12. All students received general music instruction, and have the opportunity to participate in orchestra, band, chorus, and other music electives.

"This award continues to recognize the extraordinary talents and accomplishments of our young student musicians and our music teachers," DPS Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alan Addley said in a news release. "It also recognizes and celebrates the District’s and community’s support for music, the arts and excellence. We extend our congratulations and appreciation to everyone who supports our music programs."

The NAMM Foundation is a nonprofit supported in part by the National Association of Music Merchants and its approximately 10,400 members around the world.

The foundation advances active participation in music making across the lifespan by supporting scientific research, philanthropic giving and public service programs.
