Darien Hoops Losses: Boys, 50-47; Girls, 61-58

The basketball teams went 0-2 in the championship games Thursday in the annual La Vista tournament.

The boys put up a good fight before falling to Greenwich 50-47 at home while the girls suffered a 61-58 loss at rival New Canaan.

The boys had no answers for Greenwich senior power forwardGreg Donlic, who poured in a game-high 27 points to earn  most valuable player honors.

Donlic almost singlehandedly fought off a chanllenge from Darien by scoring 17 of the Cardinals' 22 points in the second half. The Blue Wave (1-4))trailed 20-8 after the first quarter.

Alejandro Rodriguez added 13 points for Greewich (4-1), which reached the final with a 56-42 victory over New Canaan on Tuesday.

Liam Naughton (1-4) kept Darien in the contest with 22 points while Matt Lee added 10 for the Blue Wave. Darien got as close as 41-39 with under six minutes remaining.

Sarah Mannelly scored 30 points to lead New Canaan to victory in the girls championship game.

Mannelly earned tournament MVP honors after the Rams won their third straight game to improve to 5-2.

While Mannelly put on a show for New Canaan, Meg Marren was equally as impressive for Darien with 29 points.

After Marren hit two from the line to tie the game at 58-58, Mannelly converted 1-of-2 to put the Rams back ahead. She then made a pair from the line with under two seconds left to clinch the victory.

Courtney Rogers added 15 points for the Rams, who built a 34-29 lead at halftime. All of Rogers' points came on 3-pointers.

Emily Stein finished with a dozen for the Blue Wave, who dropped to 3-3.
