3. Red-hot Darien boys hockey team visits St. Joseph

The Darien High School boys hockey team puts its seven-game winning streak on the line Wednesday when the Blue Wave visits St. Joseph at the Shelton Rinks (8:30 p.m.)

The Blue Wave are coming off a pair of blowouts, routing Staples-Weston-Shelton 8-0 and Norwalk-McMahon 9-2 in their last two games to improve to 8-3.

Darien also has been stingy during the streak, allowing just six goals as Max Rothston has been superb in net.

However, St. Joseph also has been hot, winning its last four games to improve to 9-4.

Like Darien, the Cadets have been filling the net, scoring 17 goals in their two games, a 10-0 drubbing of Norwalk-McMahon and a 7-4 win over Trinity Catholic on Saturday.

The turning point for St. Joseph may have come on Jan. 18, when they rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat Trumbull 4-3 on a goal in the final minute.
