Darien Defeats New Canaan in Hoops, 60-56

Liam Naughton scored 18 points Tuesday as the boys basketball team posted a 60-56 victory over rival New Canaan.
It was second win for the Blue Wave, who improved to 2-6 and matched last season's victory total. New Canaan dropped to 1-7.

George Phillips added 14 points for Darien, which rallied from a 33-28 halftime deficit.
The Blue Wave jumped out to a 19-13 lead after the first quarter, but New Canaan outscored Darien 20-9 in the second period to a six-point deficit into a five-point advantage at the intermission.

Will Burger had 19 points, including four 3-pointers, and Andrew Read added 12 to pace the Rams.

The Darien and New Canaan girls basketball teams met Tuesday in a rematch of the La Vista tournament championship game with the same result.
Sarah Mannelly scored 17 points and Courtney Rogers added 13 as the Rams posted a 48-35 victory in New Canaan.
The Rams have now won six of their last seven games to improve to 7-3 after an 0-2 start. Darien dropped 4-5.
The earlier meeting was closer with New Canaan pulling out a 61-58 victory.
In the rematch, New Canaan never trailed after jumping out to a 12-7 first-quarter lead.
After holding a 21-13 halftime lead, the Rams put away the contest with a 19-4 surge that extended their lead to 40-20 late in the third period.
Kelly Karczewski scored nine points and Kate Bushell added eight to lead the Blue Wave
