"It was our first away meet of the season and a rare opportunity for us to swim in a meter pool," Darien coach Jason Cochran said. "I feel that the boys swam and dove well as we came away with a good victory. It is always tough on the guys coming into a meet right off of a break week.
"While we practiced hard, swimmers did travel for the holidays so it was an eye opener for them as to how fast you can get out of shape. We are in a busy stretch now, so they need to get focused on the goals we have."

Key performers in the Staples meet were divers Jackson McGoldrick, Lee Christensen and Kyle O'Donnell, who placed 1-2-3.
In swimming, Jack Bair and James Baker placed first and second. Tyler Gould won the 50 and100 free, Chris Janson won the 200 IM, James Baker won the 100 fly and Jack Bair won the 400 free.
Darien also took all three relay races, something the Blue Wave accomplished on Wednesday against Wilton as well.
Event winners were Baker in the 200 IM and 100 fly, Gould in the 50 and 100 free, Bair in the 500 free and Janson in the 100 back.
"Once again, the guys stepped up and had a great meet," Cochran said. "We have been dealing with both illnesses and the upcoming midterm exams, so the boys are all exhausted. Add on the training and they are even more miserable.
"I keep stressing that great teams rise up regardless of the obstacles they face. We want to be a great team so I keep challenging them and giving them goals going into meets. We continued with our morning practice on meet day routine and I feel that we got in a great workout this morning."
Once again, Darien swept the diving with McGoldrick first, followed closely by Christensen and O'Donnell.
"These guys are such a key addition and will be vital to the success of this team," Cochran said. "Having three solid and dependable divers is huge."
Darien returns to action on Friday at home against Fairfield.
