The ski team got off to a good start in its first race of the new season against Berlin, Hand, Gilford, Glastonbury and Southington at the Mt. Southington Ski Area on Jan. 10.
The girls varsity finished second with a time 316.11, defeating Glastonbury (338.82) and Southington (365.29) and losing to Berlin (312.40).

The boys placed third with a time of 297.38, defeating Berlin (DSQ) and Hand (300.22 while losing to Glastonbury (276.18) and Southington (291.95)
Girls time were: Co-captain Fay Rizzuto, 49.29; Allison Graham, 51.46; Taylor Hart, 52.16; co-captain Kailin Edgar, 52.52; Katharine Graham, 55.15; Kelsey Edgar, 55.53; Abby Howe, 57.70; Ashley Penfield, 61.63; Courtney Ormon 61.67; and Courtney Kyritz, 67.17.

Coaches Brian Zeyer and Marc Power are leading the teams again this year after the successful 2010-2011 season.
“The boys and girls teams both had good nights," Zeyer said. "With the first race being one of the larger races of the year, the kids did a great job.”

The Darien girls basketball team posted a 41-29 victory over Greenwich on Friday.
Kate Bushell scored 21 points for the Blue Wave, who were still without injured Meg Marren.
Darien (5-5) jumped out to an 11-2 lead after the first quarter, but Greenwich stayed close.
The Blue Wave held a 22-15 lead at the half before the Cardinals pulled within 30-26 after three periods. Darien pulled away in the final period by outscoring Greenwich 11-3 over the final eight minutes.
Emily Ambrogio scored 10 points for Greenwich (1-10), which suffered its 10th straight loss.

With a chance to already clinch a berth in the CIAC Class LL state tournament after last year's four-win season, the Greenwich boys basketball team left nothing to chance Friday.
Alex McMurray scored 14 points and Alejandro Rodriguez added 11 as the Cardinals overwhelmed Darien 57-25 to post their sixth straight victory and improve to 8-1.
Just nine games into the season, Greenwich has doubled last season's win total.
The outcome never was in doubt as Greenwich built leads of 17-2 after the first quarter and 31-7 at halftime against the overmatched Blue Wave. It was 44-15 after three periods before Darien finally reached double figures in a quarter with 10 points in the final period.
Greenwich almost blanked Darien in the first quarter, jumping out to a 17-0 lead before the Blue Wave scored the final points of the period.
Six-foot-10 Sean Kroon added nine points for the Cardinals.
Darien, which was coming off a 60-56 win over New Canaan, dropped to 2-7.
Matt Lee led the Blue Wave with eight points.
