The boys swimming and diving team returned to its winning ways Friday with a 97-89 victory at Ridgefield.

Christian Weeks finished first for the Blue Wave in the 100 breaststroke while Darien also won two relay races in addition to taking the top three spots in the diving with Lee Christensen, Jackson McGoldrick and Kyle O'Donnell leading the way.

The Blue Wave rebounded from a 99-87 loss to Stamford/Westhill to improve to 6-1. Darien coach Jason Cochran called the win over Ridgefield "exciting."

"It was a good bounce back for us after a close loss at home to Westhill/Stamford on Wednesday," he said.  "The guys had one of their most focused practices on Thursday and showed up on Friday ready to win. We knew it would be a close meet where every race would matter and it was a true test of who wanted it more.

"Overall, I think we had some good performances for this time of the season.  The boys have been training hard and when you add midterm exams to the schedule, exhaustion levels were high.  We continued to have some great diving performances as we took the top three spots.

"Having three divers with this level of talent is a great advantage for us since we are a small team. I continue to look forward to watching Lee, Jackson and Kyle progress as they have been solid in every meet.

"In the individual races I felt we performed well but not great. We definitely opened the door to make things interesting but we came through in the end.  Christian Weeks stepped up big for us giving us a first-place finish in the 100 breast."

Darien is off until face Greenwich on Feb. 3.

"Given where we are right now at 6-1, we are in a good place but we have a lot of work to do," Cochran said.  "The boys already got their wakeup call with the loss to Westhill, and now we need to keep our focus and work harder than ever.  Friday's win on the road was a good sign and the
boys know what they have in store over the next few weeks."
