Darien basketball teams face McMahon
The Darien girls basketball team will try not to get caught looking ahead on Tuesday when they visit McMahon (5:45 p.m.).
On paper, this should be a second straight breather for the Blue Wave, who are coming off a 70-29 victory over Harding. McMahon, which suffered a 53-44 loss at Trinity Catholic, is just 3-12 overall and 3-10 in the FCIAC.
Following this contest, however, Darien (8-6, 7-5) faces a rugged four-game stretch against Norwalk, Wilton, Stamford and Fairfield Warde, all of whom are battling for an FCIAC playoff spot.
Darien is in a five-way tie for seventh in the FCIAC standings with Norwalk, Stamford, Staples and Warde. During the next two weeks, the Blue Wave will face all of those teams except Staples, which the Blue Wave already have defeated.
Emily Stein scored 14 points and Meg Marren added 12 for Darien in the win over Harding.
While out of playoff contention, the Darien boys (2-11, 1-10) may have a chance for a rare victory Tuesday when they host McMahon (1-12, 1-10) at 7 p.m..
Darien is coming off a 56-39 loss to Harding when McMahon put up a strong fight before suffering a 76-65 setback to Trinity Catholic.
The only league wins for McMahon and Darien came against New Canaan. One of them will get their second on Tuesday.
