UPDATES

Tennis: Darien's Caroline Dunleavy, the No. 2 seed, defeated top seed Grace Joyce of Newtown, Mass., 6-2, 6-3 Thursday in the U-12 finals in the New England junior section championships at the Yale courts.

Little League: Darien American and Darien National began pool play Wednesday in the District One Little League tournament. American opened with a 16-4 win over Stamford Federal while National dropped a 3-2 decision to Wilton.

On Friday, Darien National faces Darien American at 5:45 p.m. at McGuane Field. Pool play continues through July 10 with each team playing six games within its group. No games were scheduled on Thursday.

Babe Ruth: The District Four U-13 Babe Ruth tournament will be played at Darien High School starting on Monday. The winner advances to the state tournament.

Triathlon: Out of an original 155 participants from 29 states and Canada, Darien's Bryan Murphy was only of only 35 to finish the Spartan Death Race in Pittsfield, Vt.

The annual ultra endurance test began at 6 pm on Friday and ended at 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The hurdle and challenge-driven race required competitors to complete a series of more than a dozen unusual grueling mental and physical challenges throughout a 40-mile course that runs through the dense Vermont woods.
