Baseball: The Darien 13U All Stars hosted a youth baseball program from Perth, Australia, the Perth Heat, Saturday afternoon at ’s turf field.
The Heat arrived in the U.S. on Wednesday morning and attended the Yankees-Brewers game that evening at Yankee Stadium. They plan to play about 30 games over the next three and a half weeks, making stops in Boston, Pittsburgh, Delaware and New Jersey before returning to Australia on July 25.

Many of the Heat’s players are upper-level, elite kids, and it’s their goal to play professionally. In Australia, they play about once a week.
This trip is to show them what the routine is like: staying in hotels, long bus rides and playing through injury and soreness.

Babe Ruth Baseball: The Darien Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Star team opened play in the District 1 tournament with a 7-2 victory over Greenwich on Tuesday.
Stephen Barston pitched five innings for the win, giving up one hit and striking out five. Edward Gozdz closed out the game, allowing two hits and striking out four over the final two innings.
The offense was led by Enzo Stefanoni (two hits), Jake Frasca (two hits) and Jamie Schofield (two hits, two RBI). Andrew Enzor (single), Craig Miller (single), and Barston (double) also had hits for Darien.
The future Blue Wavers will be back in action Wednesday night against Stamford (5:30 at Darien High School.)
In the 14-year-old tournament, Darien takes on Greenwich on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the 14s battle Stamford and the 15s square off against Greenwich.
Little League Baseball: Darien National defeated Ridgefield National 9-1 in the District One 12-year-old Little League tournament on Tuesday to improve to 2-2 in pool play. National is back in action on Thursday against Weston at Wilton's Bill Terry Field (5:30 p.m.)
Darien American, which is tied with Wilton atop pool B, is off until Thursday, when it faces Norwalk at McGuane Field at 5:45 p.m.
In the 10-11 baseball tournament, Darien National blanked Ridgefield American 9-0 on Tuesday to improve to 2-0 in pool play.
Darien American, which opened with a 5-3 loss to Stamford's National Lione on Friday, is off until Thursday when it takes on Norwalk at Norwalk's Veteran Park (5:45 p.m.).
