Boys volleyball: Darien's Calder Billhardt received the CHSCA Boys Volleyball Player of the Year award during the All-State banquet on Wednesday. Billhardt and teammate and co captain Austin Cockerill also were named first team All-State.

Boys lacrosse: Darien's stunning loss to Wilton in the semifinals of the Class M state tournament cost the Blue Wave (19-3) two spots in the final Laxpower.com Connecticut top-10 poll.
Darien finished third behind Ridgefield (18-5), which won the Class L title, and Wilton (16-6), which captured the Class M crown.

Nine of the final 10 teams are from Fairfield County, the lone exception being No. 8 Simsbury (15-5).
Fairfield Prep (18-5), which lost to Ridgefield 11-10 in the Class L final, is fourth, followed by Greenwich (13-8), New Canaan (13-8), Staples (15-5), Simsbury, McMahon and St. Joseph (12-8), which won the Class S championship.
There was some disagreement in the final New Haven Register state media poll, as Wilton finished third and Ridgefield third. Darien was second.
The remainder of the Register poll was virtually the same with Fairfield Prep fourth, followed by Greenwich, New Canaan, Staples, McMahon, Simsbury, and St. Joseph.
Softball: Darien (22-4), which lost to Foran in the semifinals of the Class L state tournament, finished ninth in the final New Haven Register top 10 state media softball poll.
The Blue Wave began the state tournament ranked sixth after winning their first FCIAC title. Foran (22-4), which was unranked at the start of states tournament, climbed to No. 1 after winning the Class L title.
Conard (20-3), also previously unranked, jumped to No. 2 after beating Westhill in the Class LL finals. Westhill slipped from second to third. Seymour (25-2) was fourth, followed by Sacred Heart Academy (16-10), Bacon Academy (22-4), Hale-Ray (24-3), Waterford (22-2), and Southington (17-3).
