Darien Scores and Standings, June 22

Softball: The Darien softball team, which won its first FCIAC championship and advanced to the semifinals of the CIAC Class L state tournament, placed three players on the FCIAC first team.

Westhill, which finished the regular season unbeaten, had six players on the first team, followed by Darien and St. Joseph, which each had three.

Darien players who landed on the first team included the Blue Wave's starting battery of pitcher Jessica DeMaio and catcher Olivia Gozdz and infielder Nicole Buch.

Darien's Courtney Bell was named to the second team.  The Blue Wave finished the season 22-4, falling to Foran in the Class L semifinals.

Golf:  Greg Reilly (6-over par 148) and Devon O'rourke (8-over 150) of the Country Club of Darien and Peter Ballo of Woodway (6-over 148)  finished in the top 32 to qualify for match play in the Connecticut Amateur Championship at the Rolling Hills Country Club in Wilton.

O'rourke, the No. 31 seed, needed to win a one-hole playoff to garner one of the final two spots.  He will take on No. 2 seed Branden Chikorka of River Valley (139) in the first round of match play on Monday morning at 8:50 p.m.

Reilly, the No. 25 seed, faces No. 8 seed  Ben Hunter of Sterling Farms (144) at 7:50 a.m.. Ballo, a former standout at Trinity Catholic and current star at St. John's, is the No. 24 seed and meets Greenwich's David Pastiore at 8 p.m.

Second-round matches will follow in the afternoon. The quaterfinals and semifinals are set for Thursday with the 36-hole finale on tap for Friday. Weston's Bernie D'Amato is the reigning amateur champion.

Little League: The all-towns District One Little League tournament of champions got under way Monday with Ridgefield National defeating Darien American 15-5 in a first-round game.

Quarterfinals in the single-elimination event are set for Wednesday, followed by the semifinals on Thursday and the finals on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Norwalk vs. Redding, 5:45 p.m., at Veteran's Park

Darien National vs. Rowayton, 5:45 p.m., at Bailey Beach

Ridgefield American vs. Wilton, 5:45 p.m., at Bill Terry Field

Weston vs. Ridgefield National, 5:45 p.m.,,at Aldrich Field

The Norwalk Jaycees won last year's TOC, defeating Rowayton Hose, 4-3.
