Volleyball: The Darien boys volleyball team advanced to the CIAC Class M state finals with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-10 win over No. 5 seed Tuesday night at Oxford.

The Blue Wave (21-1) will play in Friday's state finals (5 p.m., Fairfield Warde) against No. 3 Newington, which ousted Masuk, 3-2. Last year, Masuk eliminated the Blue Wave in the semifinals.

Calder Billhart led the way for Darien on Tuesday with 13 kills, 13 service points, and three aces.

Sam Bryant added 11 kills and three digs while Austin Cockerill chipped in with 10 kills and three blocks.

Matt Lee recorded 35 assists in addition to his nine service points and four assists. Sean Lee and Matt Collier finished with nine service points.

Darien could have as many as three of its spring teams in state championship games as the boys and girls lacrosse squads play their respective semifinals on Wednesday.

  • Boys volleyball: Darien 3, Fermi 0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-10) (Class M semifinals)

WEDNESDAY'S SCHEDULE

  • Girls lacrosse: Darien 11, New Canaan 9 (Class M semifinals) -- Blue Wave will face Hand in the state final on Saturday.
  • Boys lacrosse: Wilton 11, Darien 3 (Class M semifinals) -- Blue Wave is dethroned as six-time state champions.
