• Field hockey: Seeking a fifth consecutive state championship, the Darien field hockey team survived a huge scare Monday.
Lexi Perticone scored with 6:49 remaining in overtime as the top-seeded Blue Wave escaped with a 2-1 victory over No. 9 seed Guilford in the quarterfinals of the Class M tournament.
Guilford (11-5-1-1) was less than 11 minutes away from an upset after Natalie Bruneau scored for the Indians in the second half, but Lilly Cassidy registered the tying goal for the Blue Wave (19-1-0-0) with 10:14 left in regulation.

Darien dominated terrirorially with a 19-1 edge in penalty corners, but Guilford goaltender Nick Snow kept the Indians in the game with 15 saves.
Darien's win sets up a showdown with FCIAC rival Wilton in the semifinals on Wednesday at New Canaan at 6 p.m. Wilton advanced Monday with a 1-0 win over New Fairfield.

• Boys soccer: The stellar season of the Darien boys soccer team continued Monday as the Blue Wave eliminated defending state champion and archrival New Canaan with a 1-0 victory in the quarterfinals of the Class L tournament.
Brennan Branca scored on a penalty kick in the 12th minute, and Darien's defense made the one-goal lead hold up over the final 68 minutes.
One year removed from winning just two games, the fifth-seeded Blue Wave (14-3-3) has advanced to the quarterfinals to take on No. 4 seed Bunnell in Stratford on Wednesday.
Bunnell, which lost to New Canaan in last year's state final, advanced with a 3-1 win over No. 13 Naugatuck.
Jack Fisher made seven saves for Darien and Alex Levene stopped four shots for 12th-seeded New Canaan, which finished the year at 10-5-5.
Three other FCIAC teams were eliminated Monday. Top seed Pomperaug defeated Greenwich 5-2 and Farmington ousted Staples 1-0 in a rematch of last year's Class LL state championship game, won by Farmington.
Norwalk reached the quarterfinals with a 4-1 win over Westhill and reigning FCIAC champion Trumbull advanced with a 2-1 victory over Simsbury.
In another Class L contest, top seed Wethersfield eliminated Wilton, 4-3.
• Girls volleyball: Darien (22-0) hosts No. 8 Glastonbury in the quarterfinals of the Class LL tournament on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
The Blue Wave overcame a slow start to defeat No. 17 Fairfield Ludlowe 3-1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-20) in the second round on Saturday.
Glastonbury advanced with a 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 18-25, 25-19) win over No. 9 South Windsor. Both Darien and Glastonbury had byes in the first round.
The winner of Tuesday's contests takes on either No. 4 Southington or No. 5 Ridgefield in the semifinals on Thursday at Milford's Foran High School at 5 or 7:30 p.m.
Darien defeated Ridgefield in the FCIAC finals to capture its 10th consecutive league championship.
