• Boys soccer: After being postponed on Tuesday, the FCIAC boys soccer playoffs resume Wednesday with the semifinals at Fairfield Ludlowe.

No. 3 seed Darien takes on second-seeded Trumbull at 7 p.m. after No. 4 Staples and No. 8 New Canaan clash at 5 p.m.

Darien advanced with a 2-1 win over Westhill while Trumbull needed penalty kicks to oust Wilton, 2-1.

Staples, which is seeking a fourth consecutive league title, reached the semifinals with a 1-0 win over Greenwich. New Canaan stunned Norwalk 2-1, marking the second straight year that the Rams upset the top-seeded Bears in the quarterfinals.

The final, originally scheduled for McMahon, now will be played at Fairfield Ludlowe on Friday at 7 p.m.

• Field hockey:  The FCIAC has announced that the field hockey quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday at two sites: McMahon and Fairfield-Warde

At McMahon:

  • No. 5 Stamford vs. No. 4 Staples, 5 p.m.
  • No. 8 Westhill vs. No. 1 Darien, 7 p.m.

At Warde:

  • No. 6 Norwalk vs. No. 3 New Canaan, 5 p.m.
  • No. 7 Fairfield Ludlowe vs. No. 2 Wilton, 7 p.m.

The semifinals at set for New Canaan on Thursday (5 p.m. and 7 p.m.) with the finals pushed back until Saturday at 10 a.m. at McMahon.

• Girls volleyball: The start of the FCIAC girls volleyball playoffs have been delayed until Thursday. Here are the quarterfinal matchups (all at 4 p.m.):

  • No. 8 Fairfield Ludlowe at No. 1 Darien
  • No. 7 Danbury at No. 2 Ridgefield
  • No. 6 Stamford at No. 3 Staples
  • No. 5 Greenwich at No. 4 New Canaan

• Girls swimming: The FCIAC swimming and diving finals will begin on Thursday with the diving trials at Greenwich at 4 p.m.

The diving finals will take place at 5 p.m. on Friday at Westhill, followed by the swimming finals on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Greenwich.

• Cross country: The state Open meet, scheduled for Friday at Manchester's Wickham Park, has been postponed until next Tuesday, according to the CIAC.

The site of the meet also has been changed as the girls and boys races now will be take place at at Hammonasset State Park in Madison. The boys will start at 1:45 p.m., followed by the girls at 2:30 p.m.

Darien won the Class L boys championship on Saturday at Wickham Park, which is unavailable for the state Open because of damage it suffered in Saturday's snowstorm.

The Open competition will determine which runners qualify for the  New England championships Nov. 12 at Ponaganset High School in North Scituate, R.I.
