• Boys soccer: After 100 minutes, the Darien and New Canaan boys soccer teams couldn't seem to settle anything Monday, battling to a 1-1 tie at Darien High School.
Undefeated after winning the CIAC Class L state title last season, New Canaan needed less than nine minutes to grab a 1-0 lead on a goal by Tom Carey. Darien answered just over a minute later, tying the contest on a goal by Spencer McMullin.

From there, the defenses and goalkeepers dominated, as Scott Levene made nine saves for New Canaan and Jack Fisher stopped five shots for New Canaan.
The draw left the Rams with a 6-0-3 record, while the Blue Wave stands at 7-1-2.

It was the second straight draw for New Canaan, which was coming off a surprising 1-1 tie against winless St. Joseph. Darien was coming off its first loss of the season, a 1-0 setback at Wilton.
• Football: There was little movement this weekend in the New Haven Register media high school football poll with Xavier (4-0), Masuk (4-0), and Ansonia (3-0) holding on to the top three spots.
No. 4 Hand (4-0) and No. 5 New Canaan (4-0) flip-flopped, with the Tigers climbing one spot and the Rams dropping one position. Last week, New Canaan rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat McMahon, 36-33.
New London (3-0) held on to the No. 6 spot, followed by Staples (3-0), Windsor (4-0), Bunnell (4-0) and North Haven (4-0).
Four FCIAC teams also received votes, led by Darien (4-0) at No. 13.
