Co-captains and seniors Charlie Baird, Michael Coe and Michael Johnston along with freshman Alex Ostberg finished together in 17:26. Sophomore Peter Kreuch finished eighth overall and fifth for the Blue Wave in 18:11.
Also scoring points for Darien were co-captain Eli Converse and Brian Davey, who finished ninth and 10th for the team, crossing the line in 18:15 and 18:26 respectively.
“We accomplished our goal today. We keep working toward the postseason,” Darien coach Tyson Kaczmarek said
The team’s next meet is the Wickham Park Invitational, set for Saturday at Wickham Park in Manchester, where the team will compete against squads from across the state.
Darien's next FCIAC meet is Tuesday at Tod's Point in Greenwich (4 p.m.) against Greenwich, Fairfield Warde and Wilton.
• Youth hockey: The Connecticut Ice Cats U14 girls ice hockey team enters the 2011-12 season with high expectations after a similarly rostered U-12 team went to nationals two years ago.
The team kicked off its schedule with a home and away sweep of the perennial powerhouse New Jersey Colonials by scores of 3-1 and 4-1. Meg Fay's hat trick led the way in the first game as the Ice Cats peppered 44 shots on goal in a high energy performance.
Game two featured a trip to New Jersey, where goaltender Brooke Jonsson led the team to victory holding the opponents scoreless until the waning moments of the game. Elizabeth Growney found the back of the net twice while Christy Conley and Katie Zaro chipped in with a goal apiece.
The team wisely utilized the defensemen in the offensive zone, resulting in three of the goals starting from the point with two assists from Amanda Sload and one off Catherine Granito's shot.
Natalie Shindler and Allegra Molkenthin led a strong defensive effort and outstanding two-way play by Emma Stevens, Kate DeFrino, Schuyler van den Broek and Lauren Cicero limited the number of Colonials' scoring chances.
The Ice Cats hope to continue their winning ways in Providence at the "Fight Like a Girl" tournament this coming weekend.
