• Girls soccer: With a new coach at the helm, the Darien girls soccer team begins its season on Tuesday at Trumbull (7 p.m.).
Leigh Parsons, a 1999 Darien graduate, takes over the reins for Jon Bradley, who is now coaching the Darien boys soccer squad.

After qualifying for the FCIAC playoffs and advancing to the quarterfinals of the CIAC Class L state tournament, the Blue Wave are looking for a smooth transition with a new coaching staff in place.
Darien has to replace offensive leader Georgie Highton, who is now at Virginia Tech. On the plus side, the Blue Wave returns senior midfielder and captain Marieke Bravo, a four-year starter who was an All-State player last season.

Also returning are fellow captains Katie Dee, Leslie Yuen and Katie Close. Sophomore Phoebe Taylor will start in goal, replacing the graduated Charlotte Phillips
Darien finished 11-6-1 last season, losing to Bunnell on penalty kicks in the round of eight in the state tournament.
• Youth football: Darien's fifth grade White football team notched its first victory of season Saturday with a 40-27 win over Westport South.
The Key to the game was the outstanding blocking on offense by Conner Fay, Christian Haranzo, Quinn Murphy, Keven Gomez, Lawrence Story, Christian Evans and Zack Abourezk.
Peter Bredahl, Tyler Herget and Charlie Walsh scored touchdowns for Darien with Will Rolapp, Bredahl and Blake Cellar adding point-after runs.
On defense, Darien received outstanding play from linemen Evans (fumble caused), Matt Darrah, Story and Fay, safety Jack Gordon, defensive end Brendan Vodola and linebackers Cellar, TJ Cornacchia (two interceptions) and Rolapp (sack, fumble caused and one interception).
• Youth soccer: The Darien U12 girls Blue soccer team recently won the FAST Labor Day tournament in Fairfield.
Team members were Katie Ramsay, Lauren Jennings, Emma Alpaugh, Charlotte Harmon, Onora Brown, Fiona Taney, Elizabeth Jennings, Sydney Schrenker, Sarah Logan, Sally Cassidy, Christine Fiore, Brooke Laird, Emily Bergwall, Corinne Bevill and Kerry Blatney.
The squad was coached by John Fiore and Parke Logan.
