Darien Selectman Stevenson: 8-30g Points Discriminatory Toward Elderly
Stevenson testified on a proposed house bill.

First Selectman Jayme Stevenson testified on a bill regarding 8-30g housing.
The statute allows devleopers to circumvent local zoning laws if the town does not have 10 percent of its housing stock classified as affordable.
Stevenson said that the statute is discriminatory toward the elderly as points for housing intended for low-income elderly residents don't count as much as those for family units, according to the Darien Times.

The new bill's stated purpose is to "...reduce the instances in which an affordable housing developer can appeal a municipality's rejection of an affordable housing project and to expand the types of housing that allow a municipality to qualify for an affordable housing moratorium."
Stevenson proposed eliminated any reference to elderly in the statute and all affordable housing points should be allocated based on deed restricted income levels and not the age of the occupant.
