Darien Selectmen To Consider Extending Beach Security, Parks Service Contracts for FY27
Here's what's on tap for the upcoming Darien Board of Selectmen meeting.

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Board of Selectmen is scheduled to consider extending a security services contract for the town’s beaches when it meets Monday night, along with requests to renew other municipal service agreements and make board appointments.
The board will hold a regular meeting Monday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in a virtual-only session via Zoom, according to the agenda. A public comment period is listed during the meeting.
One of the main items listed on the agenda is a request to extend services of Sparks Security for fiscal year 2027, listed under New Business for discussion and possible action.

The contract covers security services at Weed Beach and Pear Tree Point Beach and includes a proposed rate increase from $25 per hour in 2025 to $25.87 this year, with holiday coverage billed at time and a half.
The extension would continue services previously approved by the board and is intended to support beach safety during the upcoming season.

Also under New Business, the selectmen are scheduled to consider requests to extend contracts with Geese Relief and ServiceMaster Sosa for FY2027, both tied to Parks and Recreation operations.
Geese Relief provides Canada goose population control services at town parks including Tilley Pond Park, Town Hall Fields and Highland Farm, while ServiceMaster Sosa handles cleaning services at beach bathhouses and public restrooms. Both items are listed for discussion and possible action.
Following those items, the board is expected to adjourn to executive session to conduct personnel interviews for vacancies on the Architectural Review Board and the Environmental Protection Commission, before returning to open session for appointments to those bodies.
The agenda also includes the first selectman’s report, board liaison reports, an agenda review discussion on bike and scooter safety, and a look ahead to upcoming meetings. Minutes from prior February budget review meetings are listed for approval but are not part of the substantive agenda items.
