Darien Selectmen To Discuss Great Island Parking, Events And Safety Policies

DARIEN, CT — The Darien Board of Selectmen is scheduled to discuss several Great Island matters Monday, including parking, events, public access, safety and security.

The board will meet in person at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in Room 206 at Darien Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Road. The meeting will also be broadcast by DarienTV.

The selectmen are scheduled to receive an update on the design of parking at Great Island and discuss elements of a policy governing events at the town-owned property.

The board is also expected to discuss broader policy issues involving parking access, safety and security at Great Island. The agenda does not list possible action on the Great Island items.

Under old business, the board is scheduled to discuss and possibly act on its input regarding Darien’s draft 2026 Plan of Conservation and Development. The town’s long-term planning document addresses matters involving land use, housing, transportation, flood resilience, building standards and Great Island.

The board may also act on two proposed budget transfers totaling $58,000.

One request would transfer $41,000 from salary accounts in the assessor’s office to professional services and seasonal and temporary staffing.

A second request would move $17,000 from Board of Finance contingency to consulting services. The money would cover a third-party engineering review of drainage calculations and site design plans for the Salt Box Area Drainage Improvement Project.

The board is also scheduled to consider reappointing members to the Commission on Aging and Town Pension Committee.

Other agenda items include approval of the Aug. 31 meeting minutes, an inventory of charter and ordinance changes and an update on an agreement with Post 53.

Public comment is listed near the beginning of the meeting. Residents may speak for up to three minutes during the designated period or submit written comments before the meeting. Written comments will be distributed to board members but will not be read aloud.
