Darien Sewer Commission: Storm Water to Sewers Wastes Money

A customer recently learned about the expensive mistake.

The Darien Sewer Commission is reminding residents to not discharge storm water from sump pumps and curtain drains into the sewer system.

The water should instead be sent into the ground, according to Darien Times. Sewage fees are based on water that is used and sent back for treatment, so water used for irrigation or storm water wouldn’t count.

A customer went to the sewer commission to contest a bill and it became apparent that his sump pump was discharging water into the sewer system, which is sent to the Stamford Water Pollution Control Authority.
