Darien Sewer Users: Stop Flushing Wet Wipes

Darien Sewer Commission members are advising sewer users not to flush wet wipes down toilets.

The wipes become entwined with other wipes and create large masses that clog pipes, according to the Darien Times.

Packaging on wet wipes often describe them as flushable. They will go down the toilet, but trouble starts when they travel through the sewer system.

Wet wipes, cooking fat and other materials formed a 15-ton mass dubbed the “fatberg” in London during 2013. It took six months to repair damage.
