Darien Shampoo Bandit Comes Back for More, Gets Arrested: PD

He stole about $3,500 worth of hair care products from the Darien CVS and is a suspect in other thefts around the region, police said.

DARIEN, CT — A man who stole about $3,000 worth of high-end shampoo from the Darien CVS on the Post Road was arrested after he attempted to steal even more high-end shampoo, according to police.

The original theft happened on Dec. 27. Shortly before 8 a.m. on Jan. 13 CVS contacted police to report that a man stole a number of high end shampoo and hair care items from the store. The manager told police that he ran across the street to the nearby train station and entered a taxi, said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron Jr., police spokesman

Police arrived on scene and found only one taxi occupied. The occupant matched the suspect description and was taken into custody. The suspect is identified as Luis Medina, 25, of Bronx, New York.

"Officers then gained access to CVS surveillance video and observed Medina remove and conceal approximately 15 hair care items from a shelf in the store and conceal them in his loose fitting pants," Marron said. "After placing Medina under arrest and searching him, the items removed from the store shelf were recovered in his pants."

Several other products were recovered from Medina's backpack and were determined to be stolen from a CVS in the Bronx, Marron said. A tool used to remove security devices was also found.

Medina in total stole about $3,500 worth of products from the Darien CVS, Marron said.

"Medina was also identified as a suspect in shoplifting incidents in CVS stores in Stamford, Westport, and New York City," he said. "In these incidents he’s stolen approximately $9,000.00 worth of merchandise."

He was charged with third-degree larceny for the Dec. 27 incident, sixth-degree larceny and possession of burglar tools for the Jan. 13 incident and second-degree failure to appear for an outstanding Norwalk warrant.

He was held on a $50,000 bond.
