Darien Softball Falls To Trumbull, 3-1, In Regular-Season Finale

The Blue Wave will Fairfield Warde in the first round of FCIAC playoffs.

The Darien High School softball team faced one of the toughest pitchers in the FCIAC on Friday, falling to Trumbull, 3-1, in its regular-season finale.

Trumbull's Alex Puglisi scattered five hits and struck out 11,  helping the
Golden Eagles (17-3, 15-3) secure the No. 3 seed in the FCIAC playoffs.

Darien (16-4, 14-4) settled for the No. 4 seed and will host Fairfield Warde in a first-round game Monday. The winner of that contest will take on either top seed and undefeated Westhill or Stamford in the semifinals.

Puglisi has an ERA of 0.25 and, entering Friday's game, had allowed only two runs in May—both unearned.

Ashley Simoneau gave Puglisi all the support she needed with a two-run double off Jess DeMaio in the top of the first inning.
