3. Darien basketball teams face Wilton

Coming off a 66-53 loss to Norwalk, the Darien girls basketball team continues its difficult stretch on Tuesday when the Blue Wave hosts Wilton at 7 p.m.

Meg Marren scored 24 points and Kate Bushell added 15 against Norwalk for the Blue Wave, who had a two-game winning streak.

The defeat to Norwalk knocked Darien (9-7, 8-6) out of an FCIAC playoff spot as they are tied with Fairfield Warde and Westill for ninth place in the standins. Those three teams are one game behind Norwalk, Stamford and Staples, who are tied for sixth at 9-5 in league play.

Wilton (11-4, 11-3) rates as perhaps the FCIAC's biggest surprise this season and is on the verge of securing a playoff spot. The Warriors hold the No. 3 spot in a tiebreaker with St. Joseph.

Wilton routed Bassick 63-11 on Thursday after falling to Staples 53-48 earlier in the week.

The Darien boys (2-13, 1-11) visit Wilton in a 7 p.m. start. The Blue Wave is coming off a 52-30 loss to Norwalk while the Warriors fell to Bassick 85-67 on Thursday.
