2. Darien girls basketball posts big win over Wilton

The girls basketball team improved its FCIAC playoff hopes Tuesday with a potentially critical 33-28 victory over Wilton.

Meg Marren scored 11 points for the Blue Wave, who rebounded from Friday's 66-53 loss to Norwalk to improve to 10-7 overall and 9-6 in the FCIAC.

Wilton, which dropped its second straight, slipped to 11-5 and 11-4.

Emily Stein added 10 points for the Blue Wave in the low-scoring affair. Darien held Wilton to single figures in the first half en route to building a 16-8 lead at the intermission.

Maddy Fulton scored 15 points for Wilton, more than half the Warriors' total.

The win leaves Darien in a four-way tie for seventh in the FCIAC with Stamford, Staples and Fairfield Warde with three games remaining in the regular season.

3. Darien boys fall to Wilton

Ian Ross scored 20 points Tuesday as the Wilton boys basketball team routed Darien 72-42 at the Zeoli Field House to move within one win of clinching a berth in the state tournament.

Wilton, which is seeking its first state tournament berth since 1999, improved to 7-8 after snapping a two-game losing streak.

The Warriors, who never trailed Tuesday, built a 33-20 halftime lead, then broke open the game in the second half.

Three players scored in double figures for Wilton as Weston Wilbur tallied 13 and Chris Nugent added nine.

Wilton's first chance to secure a postseason spot will come on Friday when it hosts Danbury.

Darien dropped to 2-14 and 1-13.
