Darien Students Participate In Anti-Gun Violence Walkout: Report

DARIEN, CT — About 60 Darien High School students walked out of class at 10 a.m. on Friday as part of the "National Day of Action Against Gun Violence in Schools," though they did not have pre-approval from district officials, reports the Darien News.

The protest was held on the 19th anniversary of the 1999 mass shooting at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado, and about two dozen of the Darien students who walked out on Friday took a train to New York to be a part of a gathering in Washington Square Park.

Friday's walkout was the latest protest against gun violence since the Feb. 14 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.

Members of the Darien Police Department did not stop the students who walked out on Friday, but officers were at the Noroton Heights Train Station to ensure they make it safely, according to the publication.
