Darien Swimmers Repeat as Class L Champions
The Blue Wave girls dominated the pool en route to a sixth consecutive state title.

NEW HAVEN, CT — For the sixth straight year, the Darien High School girls swimming team captured the Class L state championship Tuesday at the Southern Connecticut State University pool.
The Blue Wave compiled 729.5 points to outdistance runnerup Cheshire, which had 666.5.
Darien swimmers won four of the 12 events, including a new state record time of 1:01.93 set by Kaki Christensen in the 100 breaststroke. She also won the 200 individual medley, while Phoebe Slaughter captured the 100 backstroke. The 200 freestyle relay team of Slaughter, Cassandra Maroney, Carly Rutledge and Christensen was also victorious.

The title is Darien's 15th in the last 17 years, and 18th overall. The Blue Wave have also snared three State Open championships (2012 through 2014).
