Darien Teacher Prepared To Walk Out On Job Over Gun Laws: Report

The Stamford resident is a 12-year veteran educator at Darien High School.

DARIEN, CT — A veteran Darien High School teacher says she will walk out on her job of 12 years if Congress does not take action and pass meaningful gun control legislation by April 20, a result even she is skeptical will happen, reports the Stamford Advocate.

Jennifer Ladd's decision follows the mass shooting in Florida on Feb. 14 where 14 students and three educators were killed. A Stamford resident, Ladd expects to be fired over her stance because teachers cannot walk out on the job in Connecticut, or strike.

Reaction from her students has been mostly positive, though some questioned how she could do this if she loves her job (which she told them she does), and some have told her they do not agree with it.

Before Ladd's April 20 end date, students from around Fairfield County and the country are planning walkouts on March 14 to protest gun violence, according to the publication.

At Ladd's school, Darien High School, students also are planning to participate in the 17-minute protest,
and several met with Schools Superintendent Dr. Dan Brenner this week to work out logistics of the event, reports the Darien Times.
