Darien Advances To FCIAC Girls Volleyball Final

Blue Wave will play No. 2 seed Ridgefield in Saturday's title game

The Darien girls volleyball team advanced to the FCIAC final on Friday night with a 3-0 ( 25-19, 25-17, 25-16) over New Canaan at Fairfield Ludlowe.

It was the 18th sweep in 20 matches this season for the Blue Wave (20-0), who will take on No. 2 Ridgefield in Saturday's final at Ludlowe at 4 p.m.

Ridgefield (18-2) reached the final with a 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 victory over No. 3 seed Staples. The Tigers now will get a chance to dethrone the Blue Wave, who captured nine consecutive FCIAC championships.

New Canaan (15-5) had reached the semifinal after rallying from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Greenwich in five sets.

Darien, which was dethroned as Class L state champions last year, swept Ridgefield during the regular season. The Tigers' only other loss came to Stamford.

Since then, Ridgefield has won 12 consecutive matches, nine by scores of 3-0.
