Darien Woman Charged In Hit-And-Run: Westport PD

Police said the accused failed field sobriety tests administered at the scene and was taken into custody.

WESTPORT, CT — Police said a Darien woman has been charged in a hit-and-run incident that occurred over the weekend in Westport. According to a press release, officers responded to a complaint of a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident Saturday on Easton Road.

Police said the complainant reported his vehicle had been parked in front of a residence while he was in the backyard. After hearing the loud sound of a collision, he found his vehicle had been struck by another vehicle, which was subsequently seen leaving the scene of the accident, police said.

"[The complainant] provided a description of the suspect vehicle, which was found stopped on Wilton Road shortly thereafter by officers," Lieutenant Anthony Prezioso said in a press release. "The vehicle had been rendered disabled due to damage sustained in the collision."

Police said the driver was identified as Veronica Munoz, 61, of Darien.

"Officers observed an odor of an alcoholic beverage on Munoz’ breath and she appeared to be under the influence," Prezioso said. "She claimed to have been aware that she struck something, but additionally claimed that she did not know she had struck a parked vehicle."

Based on the investigation, she was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol, evading responsibility and failure to drive in the established lane, police said.
