Darien Woman Scammed On Facebook Marketplace: Police
Police said a woman believed she was purchasing a couch from Facebook Marketplace only to find out she had been scammed.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien woman looking to make a purchase on Facebook Marketplace was scammed, according to Darien police.
On Dec. 11, a police officer took a report from a woman who said she saw a couch she was interested in buying which was listed in a Darien/New Canaan Facebook tag sale group, police said.
The woman contacted the listed seller who said they lived in Darien; the seller then provided an address, police noted, as well as a Venmo account. The woman paid the asking price, and drove to the address that was provided before realizing she had been scammed, police said.

"When logging back into Facebook, the seller's account was no longer active," police said. "The Darien Police Department designates parking spots in their lot as a safe internet exchange location. If possible, it is recommended to use this location as a buyer and a seller. If this is not apossible option, the buyer should never pay for an item without confirming its validity."
