Darien YMCA Flips to First in Glastonbury

The Darien YMCA gymnastics team resumed competition after the holidays at the Flippers Invitational in Glastonbury.

Flipping to the top of the podium for their age group and level were individual All-Around (AA) champions Grace Nash, Treasa Brown, Sofia and Isabella DeStefano, Jamie Santella, Leah Wall, Skye Greene, Lana Schmidt, Aisling Brock and Kelsey Fedorko. Levels 4, 5 and 7 also won the team championships.

Darien Level 9 gymnasts Fedorko and Adnerys DeJesus tied for beam champ with 9.7, then split the other titles, with Fedorko taking first on floor and All Around and DeJesus winning vault and bars. Perri Mirabile won the Level 8 16+ group floor title with a 9.7, placed second on vault and third AA.

Leading the champion Level 7 team were Aisling and Fiona Brock in the Seniors age group. Aisling won the vault and AA titles, placed second on beam and floor and fourth on bars. Fiona won the beam title, and earned second AA, fifth on floor and six on bars. Kaitlyn Moussignac placed fifth on beam and AA. In the Juniors, Gianna Cardini won the beam title with 9.4, placed second on vault and AA and fourth on floor while Juliana Jordao was third on both vault and bars.

Lana Schmidt led the Level 6 team, winning the 12s AA with 37.00 along with the floor title and placing third on beam and fourth on vault and bars.

Tess Keating was second on bars, third on floor, fifth on beam and fourth AA. In the 13s, Maeve DeGulis earned second on bars, third on beam, fourth on floor and fifth AA. Dorothy Browning earned third on floor and fifth on beam before being injured.

The high flying flippers for the champion Level 5 team were led by Leah Wall in the 9-10s, who won both beam and floor with 9.8s, along with vault and AA with 38.10 and was third on bars. Tori Ware placed third AA, fifth on floor, fourth on vault, bars and beam where she tied with Sommer Schmidt and Paige Domenici. Domenici also earned fourth on floor and fifth AA followed by Schmidt, who was sixth on vault, bars and AA.

Darien gymnasts overflowed the podium in the 11s group, led by Skye Greene who won the floor and AA title with a 37.15, placed second on beam, third on vault and fourth on bars.

Nicole Thompson won the bars and beam titles and was fifth on vault, eighth on floor and second AA. Lindsay Hall was third on bars, fourth on beam and AA, sixth on vault and seventh on floor. Dillan Aysseh was fourth on vault, fifth on bars and AA, and sixth on floor and beam.

Holly McGoldrick placed third on beam, fifth on floor, sixth on bars and AA and eighth on vault. Megan Cutler was fourth on beam, seventh on bars, tenth on vault and ninth on bars and AA. Lizzie Canelli earned sixth on vault and fifth on beam.

Sofia Pye was the vault and bars champion in the 12s group, and took second on beam, floor and AA. In the senior age groups, Kerry McDermott earned her meet high score on floor and Lily Fairleigh on beam.

The first place Level 4 team was led by Sofia DeStefano, who won all four events and AA with 37.35 in the 7-8s. Devan Grills won the bars title for the 9s group with 9.55, placed second AA, fourth on floor and tied Melina Cardini for third on vault and second on beam. Cardini was also third on bars and AA and second on floor.

Isabella DeStefano won the 10 Juniors AA title with 37.25; was also champ on bars and floor, placed fourth on vault and sixth on beam. Gabriela Pye was second on vault, bars, beam and AA and fifth on floor. Her twin Caterina was second on floor, fourth AA and third on bars and beam where she tied Audrey Ridder, who was also fifth on vault.

Nina Rahbar was third on vault, fourth on beam, sixth on bars and floor and fifth AA. Emma Kelly was fourth on floor, fifth on bars, seventh on beam and sixth on vault and AA.

In 10 Seniors, Katelyn Secor placed second on vault, third AA, sixth on bars and fourth on floor and beam where she tied Sofia Imbrogno. Imbrogno was also seventh on vault. Jane Tortorella won the floor title and placed third on beam, seventh on bars and fourth AA.

Annie Bingle was second on bars, third on vault, seventh on floor and sixth AA. Saskia Chermayeff won the beam title with 9.7, placed third on floor and fourth on bars before being injured.

Jamie Santella swept the titles in the 11 Juniors, winning all four events and the AA with 37.85. Emma Neaderland placed second on bars, fourth on beam, sixth on vault and third on floor and AA.

Alison Enters earned second on vault, fifth on floor and sixth on beam. In 11 Seniors, Melanie Vernal was third on vault, sixth on beam, fifth on floor and eighth AA. In the 14+ group, Sofia Fea placed second on bars and AA and third on all other events.

The Level 3 contingent was small but equally successful. In the 9 Juniors, Anna Primmer won the floor title with 9.6 and was second on vault, sixth on bars and fourth AA. Grace Nash won the vault and AA titles for the 10 Juniors, scoring 36.95 and placed second on beam and third on bars and floor.

Treasa Brown was the 10 Seniors beam and AA champ scoring 37.05 and placed second on bars and floor and fifth on vault. Alexandria Decsi earned eighth on bars.
