Darien's Newest Police Officer Graduates From Academy

The Darien Police Department congratulated the new officer and welcomed him aboard in a social media​ post last week.

DARIEN, CT — After six months of rigorous training, Darien police officer Matthew McDonald has graduated from the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden.

McDonald recently graduated with 43 other classmates representing dozens of other Connecticut police departments. The Darien Police Department congratulated McDonald and welcomed him aboard in a social media post last week.

A native of Norwalk, McDonald received a bachelor's degree from St. John's University and a master's degree in criminal justice from the University of New Haven. He was sworn in by Darien Police Commissioner Kevin Cunningham, and he was presented with his badge by Darien Police Chief Don Anderson during a brief ceremony at the department last June.

The police department said McDonald will now begin a comprehensive field training program that will last for several months.
