DARIEN, CT — The Myers Building at the Noroton Heights train station is scheduled to be demolished next week, a move that will facilitate improvements at the station, according to Darien Department of Public Works.

A contracting company will stage the area around the building on Oct. 21, and the demolition will begin the next day. As a result, the parking lot ramp between the lower level parking on the south side of the station over to the Post 53 area "will be closed during the day for 2 to 3 days…weather permitting," officials said.

"We will attempt to not close the ramp until after 8:30am and re-open around 4pm each day," officials said. "The Town has placed Variable Message Signs (VMS) on site to alert the public of the upcoming work."

The exact length of the demolition project and subsequent backfilling of the area was not disclosed, but it is not expected to take long. However, the work area will remain closed off while it settles over the winter. Upon completion the parking lot and ramp area will be able to be used as it is now, officials said.

According to Edward Gentile, Jr., Darien's Public Works director, the demolition and work will improve the ramp and allow for more parking.

"The removal of the building will allow for improvements in the ramp area for pedestrians and vehicles," Gentile wrote in an email to Patch. "Additional parking will be realized by the removal of the building along with some realignment of the driveway and the construction of a sidewalk."
