DHS Girls Ski Team races on Senior Day into State Championships

BWST Seniors: Gray Kline, Katharine Graham, Taylor Hart, Chris von Steulpnagel, Graham Skeats

Darien, CT. February 12, 2015 – The Darien High School Girls Ski Team qualified for the Connecticut Interscholastic Ski League Championships on fresh packed powder snow at the Mt. Southington Ski Area. The DHS girls ski team led by Co-captains Katharine Graham, 3rd fastest on the mountain, and Taylor Hart, 11th, with strong support by sophomores Maggie Skeats, 6th, and Carly Schoudel, 13th, raced to 3 wins and 2 losses for the night against high school ski teams representing Barlow, Danbury, Fairfield, Guilford, Hand and Weston.

The Girls Varsity Team with a time of 321.97 finished 3rd defeating Barlow 324.29, Danbury 386.75 and Hand 328.87 while losing to Fairfield 305.51 and Weston 316.99. The Boys Varsity Team with a time of 316.16 finished 7th defeating Danbury 384.59, Guilford 324.58 and Hand 323.67 while losing to Barlow 313.82, New Canaan 303.68 and Weston 296.90.

Girls’ times this week were Katharine Graham 49.18 (Co-captain), Maggie Skeats 50.79, Taylor Hart 51.31 (Co-captain), Carly Schoudel 51.67, Maddie Corman 58.61, Christina Molkenthin 60.41, Isabel Sutherland 60.51, Maggie Reilly 60.65, Kylie Morgan 61.45, and Victoria Klarer 65.92.

Boys’ times this week were Brooks Daley 48.72, Chris von Stuelpnagel (Co-captain) 51.22, Graham Skeats 51.32 (Co-captain), Ben Wilson 53.65, Sean Collins 55.11, Grant Noble 56.14, Hayden Nackley 56.17, Gray Kline 56.79, Will Brandon 56.85, and Slater Lovegrove DSQ.

Coach Brian Zeyer said, “It was a great Senior Day and I am really proud of how the girls team came out and skied to win and qualified for States.”
