DNA Helps Police Nab Car Theft Suspect: Darien PD
Darien police said they arrested a 20-year-old man on Oct. 18.
DARIEN, CT — A DNA hit helped police arrest a car theft suspect after over two years, according to the Darien Police Department.
Rahquel Cranford, 20, of Waterbury, was served with an active arrest warrant at Stamford Superior Court on Oct. 18 that charged him with first-degree larceny, police said.
The warrant stemmed from an incident that occurred on Sept. 9, 2021. On that date, Darien police officers responded to Long Neck Point Road in Darien on a report of a stolen car, police said.

Later the same day, the car was found in Waterbury where it was processed by a Darien detective. Police said a DNA hit was obtained for Cranford and confirmed in April 2022.
An arrest warrant was granted by a judge on Sept. 18, 2023, with a court-set bond of $75,000.

Cranford was arraigned in court on Oct. 18. His next court date is scheduled for Dec. 8.
