DUI Arrest for Woman, 31, After Closing Time Saturday

A woman, 31, who waited at Dunkin Donuts for about half an hour after closing time was still too intoxicated to drive, Darien police said.

They were waiting for a cab, two women told a police officer as they sat in a parked car (with its headlights on) in front of The Goose restaurant at about 2 a.m. last Saturday, police said.

But rather than getting one of the cabs idling a short distance away at the Darien Metro-North Station, the two decided to stop in at Dunkin Donuts, and did so, according to Darien police. Half an hour later, they got back in the car and one started driving — poorly and while still intoxicated, police said.

Darien police gave this account (an accusation not proven in court):

A man on a downtown sidewalk flagged down a police officer at 2:05 a.m., as downtown bars were closing, to tell him that two women sitting in the car were intoxicated. The officer went over to the car and spoke to the woman in the driver’s seat, Christina Loomis, 31, of West Harrison, NY.

Loomis and the other woman in the car with her, a 34-year-old Stamford resident, both appeared intoxicated. The car keys were not in the ignition, and the women said they would first stop in at Dunkin Donuts, across the street.

As at least one of them left the vehicle and started crossing the road, she appeared not to notice a heavy dump truck headed for her.

For the next half hour, police monitored bar patrons as they left the area after the bars had closed. At about 2:30 a.m., the two women, as the police report put it, “boisterously” left Dunkin Donuts and returned to the car, which then pulled out onto the street.

The vehicle began moving east on the Post Road, stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Post Road and Center Street, then turned left onto Center Street.

The turn was so wide that the vehicle briefly occupied the left side of Center Street.

The officer drove up to the vehicle and made a traffic stop. The car pulled into the parking lot behind CVS.

Loomis, who was driving, had bloodshot eyes, smelled of alcohol and did not pass field sobriety tests that were given to her. She later refused to take a breath test.

When asked how much she had to drink, she first said she had one glass of wine at 11 p.m. Later she said she hadn’t had anything to drink.

She told police she had a New York State driver’s license but had lost it two days before. Police later learned that her license had been revoked.

Loomis, of Columbus Avenue in West Harrison, NY, was charged with driving while under the influence, making an improper turn, driving without a driver’s license, failure to drive on the right side of the road. Her friend, who owns the vehicle, was not charged with anything.

Loomis was released on $150 bond and is scheduled to appear Oct. 28 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
