Elderly Man Accosted Staffer At Darien Transfer Station, Cops Say

The alleged physical altercation occurred on Sept. 26.

DARIEN, CT — A 76-year-old Stamford man allegedly got into a physical altercation with an employee of the Darien Transfer Station after learning that he needed a sticker in order to use the dump, according to police.

David Pang, of Valley Road, was charged with breach of peace on Sept. 26 a few hours after police were called to the dump on a report of the altercation because Pang had left the scene.

"The town employee stated that the silver sedan in question attempted to drive under the gate-arm to the
transfer station behind the vehicle in front of it, without checking in," wrote Darien police in a statement. "The employee noted the vehicle was not displaying a valid sticker used to access the transfer station. When the gate closed, the silver sedan was struck on the roof by the closing arm. The suspect exited his vehicle and began to yell at the employee. The suspect then reached into the booth where the town employee was sitting, and began to pull at his shirt while continuing to yell. The employee responded by pushing the suspect back and closing the window to the booth. At this time the suspect entered his vehicle and departed. No injuries
were reported by the town employee."

When officers spoke to Pang, he told them that "he was under the impression no sticker was needed to use the transfer station," and added that he "believed the employee intentionally closed the gate on his vehicle as he attempted to enter."

Pang allegedly admitted to police that he exited his vehicle to confront the employee, and also admitted to pulling on his shirt.
